Aluminum extrusion: Aluminum extrusion heat sink is made by heating the aluminum ingot to about 460℃, letting the semi-solid aluminum flow through the extrusion die with grooves under high pressure, extruding the initial shape of the heat sink, and then cutting and further processing.The aluminum extrusion process does not accurately guarantee dimensional requirements such as flatness of the heat sink, so further processing is usually required at a later stage.
1. Aluminum extruded heat sink tooling costs can be spread out to each heat sink, making it less costly for mass production applications;
2. The ratio of tooth height and tooth spacing (Z/X) is limited and usually not recommended to exceed 15.
Die Casting Heat Sinks
Die-casting: die-casting is a processing method in which a molten alloy liquid fills the cavity of a steel mold at high speed under high pressure and causes the alloy liquid to solidify under pressure to form a casting; die-cast heat sinks, as shown in the figure below, are not precise enough in size, do not have a polished surface (with little heat radiation) and have a complex stellar body, which requires further processing at a later stage;
1. The cost of die-casting heat sink mainly lies in the die-casting mold, raw materials, machining and surface treatment, etc., and its mold cost is higher, suitable for mass production occasions (apportionment of the cost of the mold);
2. Die-casting heat sink form is more diverse than aluminum extruded heat sink, but the heat dissipation performance is relatively worse.


Skived Fin Heat Sinks
Skived fin: Skived fin is a long strip of sheet metal through mechanical action, into a certain angle will be cut into the material sheet and straighten, repeated cutting to form an arrangement has been the fin structure, as shown in the figure below; Skived fin heat sink no mold costs, applicable to small batch production needs of the occasion, the production cost is mainly: raw materials, Skived fin, CNC machining, surface treatment, and so on;
Aluminum alloy and copper are commonly used Skived fin heat sink materials.
1. Skived fin heat sink is a little bit of width is not particularly limited, the fins can be processed thickness of 0.2mm, height of 100mm, tooth spacing of up to 6mm;
2. Compared to the extrusion process, the advantage of Skived fin is that you can process a greater density of fins, and tooth height multiplier ratio is greater than the heat sink, and thus in the limited space can have a relatively large area of heat dissipation, more suitable for the use of forced air-cooled cooling occasions;
Inserted Heat Sinks
