The cold forging process allows an almost perfect straightness of more fins per square millimeter. The shapes of cold forged heat sink include plate fin heat sink, round pin heatsink and oval fin heat sinks.The manufacture of forged heat sinks are well suited to the use of copper because the copper heatsinkcan be shaped without high temperatures and can be formed with minimal damage. Cold forging heatsink manufacturing can often include secondary processing operations such as holes, chamfering and steps to reduce unnecessary waste.

This process is an integrated structure and in most cases we use a "cold forged" process. We insert the aluminum alloy material into the forging die through high pressure.


Through cold forging process, we can produce accurate size, solid surface, reliable structure of the heat sink. And can make the heat sink fin higher, thus expanding the cooling area. One of the classic applications is in the field of leds.

Product Application


Cold forging technology has been widely used by heat sink manufacturers in the production of light source heat sinks and LED heat sinks. ZP is one of the few companies who used cold forging to produce heat sinks in early days and we have accumulated abundant experience of cold forging technology. In addition to the production of heat sinks for typical light sources, ZP has gained experiences in the manufacturing techniques for high power cold forged heat sink. We have resolved the problems such as the low thermal conductivity of die-casting micro-channels and higher costs for machining micro-channels. We have already applied cold forging heatsink to cooling solutions including high-voltage inverters, wind power converters, and electric motor controllers.

Cold Forging Technology & Production


Forged heat sinks are made by modifying this process (called cold forged). Cold forged is a manufacturing process in which aluminum or copper heatsinks are formed by the use of local compression forces. Cold forging uses high pressure and low temperature to ensure that there are no bubbles, pores or other impurities in the material. This improves the thermal performance of the heat sinks and increases the density of the materials, thus produces high quality products. LORI uses special die opening tools and great pressure to produce high precision heat sinks with high aspect ratios. Forged heat sink is usually manufactured one part at a time and material can be made from AL 6063 or C1100. A maximum aspect ratio of 35:1 is feasible and no draft angle is required on the fin. Cold forging fins can be round, elliptical, straight or any combination on the same part. Aspect ratio up to 35:1 are feasible, and no draft angles required on fins.
